Remember that sin is self-degrading

Assalamu alaikum, everyone. I just want to say it's really very important to pay attention to the wording that Allah uses about sin, that it is you wronging yourself. It is self oppression. It is being unjust to yourself. In Western, Christian culture, you hear them talk about indulging in sin as if it's some kind of extravagant pampering of yourself rather than self harm.

It's seen almost as a kind of decadence rather than degrading. Your ability to abstain from sinful actions will be greatly enhanced or undermined by the way you frame it in your mind about what sin actually is. It sabotages you. It demeans you. It decreases you.

It harbors you. It is an indignity. So whenever Shaitan or your own nefs makes sinful suggestions to you, you should be insulted.
