Note on fitness: focus on function
Just a quick note to brothers about fitness. I see a lot of brothers in the gym doing weight training, lifting weights, just trying to build muscle. I would suggest that it's better for you to focus on functional strength, functional fitness. Building the kind of fitness that you need as a man if you encounter a conflict situation. Having big muscles is not necessarily gonna help you.
Being muscle bound will make you slower, and being muscle bound is not really going to intimidate another man who has any fight training. When I was younger, I was a boxer. And personally, I'm biased in favor of boxing training as the best form of fitness, the most functional form of fitness for men. You become agile, you become flexible, your reflexes are good, you're quick, you're fast, you have punching power, dynamic power, explosive power, all of the kind of things that you need really as a man. Don't focus on aesthetics, body aesthetics.
It's kind of stupid. That's not what your muscles are for. That's not what your fitness is for. Instead of, like, trying to get six pack abs, just focus on trying to get real core strength because you can have six pack abs and not actually have core strength, and you can have core strength and not have six pack abs. It's not about how you look, it's about what you can do with your physical power and physical strength and physical capabilities.
So my advice would be to stay trim. Try to make sure that the muscle that you have has maximum strength and power, regardless of how big it is, and train in some kind of combat sport, ideally boxing. Boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, things like this.
